Ah Sin Family Eating House – Simple and Hearty Zichar in Sin Ming
February 09, 2021
Situated at the foot of an old HDB flat in Sin Ming, Ah Sin Family Eating House serves simple, hearty and home-style zi char dishes. I had lunch with my friends and was surprised that the place was crowded and popular with office workers.
The Steamed Fish Head was sweet and fresh. It’s nothing fanciful, just fresh goodness. Served with sour plum, tomatoes and tofu cubes, the fish was so good with just a simple bowl of white rice. It seems like the curry fish head is another popular item here, I think I would try that next time!
The Pig Trotter Kai Lan, wok-tossed with pork lard, was so easy to hoover up, especially when topped with canned pig trotter. This is probably something you don’t see very often nowadays, but I do remember my grandmother cooking it when I was a child. I guess anything with canned pig trotter makes wonder.
The Tofu with Prawn, is another comforting dish. I loved the smooth and silky tofu which was contrasted with crunchy fresh prawns.
The magic mojo was of course the oyster omelette. It had the perfect texture, with chewy and crispy edges. The plump and succulent oysters surprised me! I didn’t expect them to be so big, and the portion was pretty generous. The chilli sauce had an intense tang that cut through the greasiness, and made the dish even more appetising.
I enjoyed the meal here and will definitely be back!
