The foodies gave me a big birthday surprise last Thursday. It started with just a simple dinner with missuschewy, sgfoodonfoot and his partner, they told me dinner was at Akari Japanese Restaurant at Marina Bay Link Mall.
However, upon arrival, we were brought into a private dining room for 8 pax. My first question was:”Are we expecting more people? Why they give us a private dining room for 8?”
By this time I was getting suspicious. But my first thought was,”Is my boyfriend proposing to me?”
HAHAHA! Ok, I know I think too much! But hey, the boyfriend was uncontactable for a few hours, so my guess was logical ok. But in the end, he called back lah, and said he went for soccer. But I still don’t believe him, and ask him where he was while I keep looking out and trying to see if he was nearby.
Anyway, after confirming he wasn’t around (feeling abit disappointed though), I went around to take photos of the exterior while the 4 other partners-in-crime (Celes, Rae, Jiayi & Yancai) appeared! So happy all of them came!!!
Located in Marina Bay Financial Centre, Akari is part of the Tomo Izakaya group. Unlike its other restaurants, Akari caters to more upscale Japanese dining experience.
‘Akari’ means ‘lighthouse’ in Japanese, so everywhere in the restaurant, you will see its employment of a variety of lighting techniques.
Here, you can get decent sashimi quality. Salmon Zukushi ($58) is a 3-kind of salmon sashimi platter which has salmon, salmon belly and salmon roe. The salmon is fresh.
Buta Shiro Kakuni ($18) was succulent and flavourful. The simmered black pork in clear stock came with mustard, very unique.
Next, Kurobuta Miso Yaki ($26) was grilled marinated black pork with homemade miso sauce. It was tender and savory.
Because there was 8 of us, so we decided to share 2 sets of Tokusyou Nigiri 12 Syu ($64), which was 12-kinds of selected premium sushi platter, to fill our stomach.
Kaisen Sansyoku Wan ($38) was 3-kinds mini rice bowls with sea urchin & salmon roe, yellowtail & sesame sauce, seasoned tuna red meat.
I like the Gindara Saikyo Yaki ($26). The cod fish was well marinated and grilled to perfection with sweet miso sauce.
Madai Yaki Anchovy Flavour ($24) was something I have never seen in any Japanese restaurant. The grilled japanese red snapper was accompanied with red chilli pepper and anchovy paste.
Here are some photos we took that day. Of course there were more spastic ones but not for viewing!
