AMIKA Cafe & Bar – New Asian-Western Fusion Cafe in Serangoon

Formerly Two Bakers, AMIKA Cafe & Bar is located just a stone’s throw away from Serangoon MRT. Here, they offer classic all-day brunch items including Eggs Benedict ($22) and Sausage Rosti ($22), Asian-Western fusion mains and unique beverages like Taro Latte ($6.50).

Having had some fusion pastas before, I decided to skip past the more common ones like Prawn Laska Pasta ($18). Instead, I went straight for their Spicy Tamarind Pork Pasta ($18.90). The slices of pork belly weren’t as thick as the ones you get at a Korean Barbeque, neither were they as thin as the ones you have for Hotpot. But they sure were well marinated.

The Tamarind marinade gave the pork slices a mix of the tanginess and sweetness, as well as a hint of sour notes. That, together with the al dente spaghetti made for a unique Thai-Western pasta flavour that kept me going back for more.

The hint of spice from the bits of chilli hit pretty late, but it helped enhance the flavours while the sliced spring onion added some fragrance.

For sides, I dug into a plate of Zaap Fries ($11). The perfectly crisp shoestring fries came coated in a special blend of homemade Tom-yum seasoning. The dried chilli didn’t really add much to the dish except colour though.

The curry leaves, on the other hand, added a layer of subtle bitterness to the sourness of the Tom-yum which made this a highly addictive side!

To wash it all down, I opted for a more unique variation of a regular latte – Charcoal Latte ($7.50). I was most excited for this, as I was expecting to see a black coloured drink. To my disappointment, it looked more like a regular latte with a tinge of grey colour from the added charcoal powder.

This latte was on the sweeter side with a much milder coffee taste. For those looking for a stepping stone into the realm of coffee, this would be just right for you. But the coffee enthusiasts out there might want to give this a miss and go straight for their regular Latte ($5.50).

Towards the back of the cafe is a cake display with various cakes and pastries. AMIKA also boasts a rather wide drinks menu with Mocktails available all day.

With the cafe located just by the roadside, it is hard to miss. So if you’re in the area, and looking for a quiet space to enjoy your meal, this might be the spot for you.
