Anna’s – Sourdough-Centric Bakery and Cafe With Toasties and Soups Opens in Punggol
November 23, 2022
Folks who love all things sourdough will definitely have quite a field day at Anna’s Sourdough. Punggol’s newest addition takes a simple starter and bakes it into their fresh goods, and transforms it into delicious dishes that make for the perfect brunch and lunch.
The cafe-cum-bakery was opened about a month ago by the founder of The Soup Spoon. Take a seat inside their warm and quaint space and while you’re waiting for your order to arrive, feel free to explore their bakery section. Here, you can find freshly-baked items such as Earl Grey Fig with Honey ($8), Jalapeno Cheddar Muffin ($5.50), Carrot Walnut Cake ($8) and of course, loaves of sourdough bread with different flavours.
Alfresco seating will see fairylights greeting you and lots of greenery that gives off tranquil and soothing vibes. The low wooden tables and open-air make it a great place to relax, catch up with friends and even get some work done while you munch on bakes.
Dishes that are perfect for brunch include Anna’s BIG Brekkie ($26) and a medley of breakfast classics with their own twist such as Spring Avocado Toast ($14), and Just Granola and More! ($13) which come with house-made chocolate sourdough granola.
For a hearty dining experience, check out their soups such as Boston Clam Chowder Sourdough Bread Bowl ($16) and Chicken Gumbo OG Version ($22), and stews like Tuscan Barramundi Stew with Sourdough Olive Bread ($28).
The French Onion Soup with Cheesy Sourdough ($16) was quite the indulgent sight to behold. The sweet and savoury soup was crowned with an incredibly cheesy sourdough slice that blended superbly with the flavours of the soup. Expect quite an explosion of flavours as you dive into the stretchy cheese. It also comes with a side of arugula, cherry tomatoes and almond flakes, all drizzled with truffle balsamic dressing.
I also got their Grilled Kimcheese Toastie ($18) that was yet another creation of cheesy goodness thanks to the mix of cheddar and Parmesan cheese. Prepare your cameras for a magnificent cheese pull! The homemade kimchi was an absolute delight, bringing forth hits of tanginess and some crunch to the grilled sourdough malted rye bread.
The toastie was paired with a creamy tomato bisque and it was tanginess galore without being too overwhelming.
Refresh your palate and quench your thirst with one of their fizzes made with the sourdough starter Audrey. The Pink Mint ($7) was a sweet and fruity concoction that includes Elderflower cordial, mint leaves and blueberries. Definitely not a boring drink and it only further elevated my entire sourdough-centric meal.
Even for someone who is not the biggest sourdough fan, I enjoyed Anna’s Sourdough’s enticing array of dishes and I’m pumped to come back to try the other dishes as well as their stunning baked goods!
