B Burger – New Burger Joint at Orchard Cineleisure
November 20, 2017
Who would’ve thought that fashion and food can come hand in hand? Known for their tailored suits, The Benjamin Barker Group just opened their latest food joint, B Burger.
Located at Orchard Cineleisure, this burger haunt boasts burgers that possess both Japanese and American elements. We would say that the burgers are anything but the fast food burgers we know.
Expect a waiting time of 10 to 15 minutes for the burgers as each burger is made upon order. That means there’s no pre-cooking of the patties.
We had the B Supreme ($9.90) which we felt was rather lacklustre. The beef patty was cushioned with sautéed mushrooms, aged cheddar and caramelised onions. The package was then placed between two soft, fluffy buttery buns. Maybe we had lofty expectations, but the beef patty lacked depth and we couldn’t taste any umami from the medium-well beef patty. Neither did we get any sweetness from the caramelised onions or sautéed mushrooms.
Thankfully, not all burgers there are made similar. The Bomchika Wow Wow ($10.90) was pretty good. Built upon the Karate Burger ($8.90), which contains a karaage chicken patty, sriracha honey, wafu slaw, daikon radish and their signature B sauce, the Bomchika Wow Wow further tops it off with a fried egg, cheese and truffle mayo. The flavours go very well together – the sweetness of the sriracha honey, the tartness of the radish, and hints of truffle, left an impression. Although the burger was quite saucy (there are 3 different sauces added), the karaage chicken still stayed crispy, much to our delight.
Top up $3.50 for a drink and a side – choose from fries, nacho soup or wafu ramen slaw.
We had the nacho soup, which was just a liquefied and creamier version of a nacho cheese dip from the cinemas. Topped with crumbled tortilla chips, the nacho soup is creamy, cheesy and spicy. You’ll also get a crisp crunch from the chips.
We ordered the Osaka Corn Dog ($6.90) to share. The sausage was encapsulated in this pound-cake texture batter and topped with Japanese seasonings, such as tobiko, shredded nori and a teriyaki-mayonnaise. The toppings made the corn dog taste very similar to tako balls. It would be great if they added bonito flakes too.
The bright and colourful décor of the restaurant gives it a fresh breath of modernity. B Burger is a great place for #ootds with your burgers.
