Outram Park is no stranger to cafes and restaurants, and you definitely won’t miss Baker’s Bench Bakery’s blue-trimmed doors as you make your way down Bukit Pasoh Road.

You will be greeted by a cozy interior that comprises wooden furniture, and a central display of bakes, the moment you step in. Their bagels are even hung on a mini stand, how cute! The chill space is great for catch-ups over one or a few of their bakes.

Priding themselves on being a bakery that uses 100% sourdough, even for their croissants, Baker’s Bench starts the fermentation process from as early as 1-2 in the morning. I could not wait to try their bakes, and started with their famous Sticky Bun ($5). Essentially a breadier version of a cinnamon roll, the fluffy Sticky Bun was topped generously with a caramel sauce that had a slightly smokey flavour. The walnuts on top also added a nice crunch. However, I wished the cinnamon flavours were more pronounced.

Another one of my favourites was the Twice Baked Orange Almond Croissant ($6). The croissant was chewy and buttery, and the bright orange flavours came through nicely.

One of the staff recommended the Bear Claw ($5.50) which is filled with hazelnut chocolate ganache and their house-made jam. Although the texture of the croissant was great, I found the delicious filling to be lacking in portion.

Wanting to try one of their sandwiches, I had a go at the Miso Aubergine Toastie ($16). Sadly, this was quite disappointing. The miso flavour was missing and in fact, the fragrance from the garlic was stronger, not that I was complaining. While I did enjoy the sourdough, like the Bear Claw, there was quite a small portion of filling which made the sandwich quite pricey.

Their Chai Latte ($7) unfortunately did not hit the spot for me. It was slightly diluted and the spices were not robust. Perhaps I should have opted for a cup of coffee instead.

For those looking to chill, and unwind, head over to this homey no-frills cafe for a cup of joe, or one of their handmade bakes.
