BCD Soon Tofu – Silky Soft Tofu Stew Chain Now Has Express Hawker Stalls!
May 28, 2022
Housed in the same coffee shop as stalls like Meng Meng Roasted Duck and El Carbon, BCD Soon Tofu brings the comfort of their warm tofu stew to the heartlands. Don’t expect the same variety of offerings at their “express” outlets, but there are still plenty of options to choose from.
Founded by Chef Nam, BCD makes its silky Soon tofu fresh with premium soybeans imported from Paju in South Korea. All of their Soon tofu sets come with kimchi, seaweed and rice.
I had the Seafood Soon Tofu Set ($8) that came with many different types of seafoods — prawns, clams, squid, and even mussels. The prawns were fresh, but on the smaller side. As someone who is not a fan of Korean food, I actually took a liking to their robust soup and the generous amount of silky tofu in it. The tofu came in large chunks and was oh so soft. On top of that, there is an egg cracked into the soup which just made the soup richer.
The Pork Soon Tofu Set ($7) was essentially the same stew base, just with sliced pork belly. While some may lament the stall’s higher prices compared to regular hawker standards, BCD is very generous with their ingredients.
The only non-stew option on the menu, their Mandu ($4.50/3pcs, $6.50/6pcs) was crispy and juicy, but just a tad too oily for my liking.
With a new outlet in Jurong, coupled with other stalls in Punggol and Ang Mo Kio, Soon Tofu is slowly making their way through the heartlands, offering their delicious stew at more affordable prices. Head down for a bowl of comforting goodness!
