Mondays have always been the most dreaded day of the week and what’s worse is that many of our favourite eateries are closed on this day too. However, did you know that there are actually quite a number of cafes open on Mondays? It’s time to kickstart the week with coffee, and spice up your Mondays with decent food. We have sussed out 37 cafes that are open on Mondays, so you will have a new place to explore each week.

Baker & Cook

Be spoilt for choice by Baker & Cook’s extensive selection of freshly baked goods – from artisanal rolls to cakes. For a balanced meal, opt for their Salmon Quiche ($10.50) which comes with a side of salad. The Raw Energy salad was a mix of shredded beetroot and carrots tossed with maple vinaigrette.

A venture by the people behind Penny University, the Jaffa Orange Mocha ($6) and Red Velvet Hot Chocolate ($5.50) will knock your socks off. We had the Beef Steak ($15), which arrived medium rare, as requested. It is first marinated in salt and pepper, to allow the natural flavours to emerge, before being vacuum-packed and cooked in a monitored water bath for 1.5 hours at 56 degrees.

Dessert Project serves unique flavours of thick toast. The Gula Melaka Coconut thick toast ($14.90) comes with a buttered base, coconut ice cream, desiccated coconut and a drizzle of gula melaka syrup for good measure. This is a dish meant for sharing. We liked how the salted butter served as a nice contrast to the otherwise sweet dessert.

We liked the air of mystery that accompanied the Unknown Cold Brew ($7.50), which was sweet and milky. The Classic Deutsch Skillet Pancake ($8) might take 20 minutes to arrive, but hang in there and you’ll be treated to a unique pancake that’s crispy, light and fluffy all at once.

Hyde & Co.

Hyde & Co.’s attempt at modernising ondeh-ondeh through their Ondeh Ondeh French Toast ($12) was certainly a successful one. The thick slices of brioche french toast was the perfect canvas for the grated pandan coconut and scoop of vanilla bean ice cream, but the glue that tied the whole dish together was the gula melaka drizzle that elevated the dish to another level.

Patissez

For the uninitiated, Patissez is the brand (and brain) behind the original Freakshakes that sent the culinary world into a sugar frenzy with their ostentatious dessert creations. The famous Freakshake ($16 each) entourage has four members – the Muddy Pat, Pretzella, Mint Condition and Sneaky Freak. Our favourite is the Pretzella that came lined with crunchy salted pretzels.
