Chin Mee Chin Confectionery

I have been wanting to have breakfast at Chin Mee Chin for the longest time but somehow I didn’t have the chance. Finally, on one lovely weekend, we dropped by the confectionary for brunch.

Unlike the Kaya Toast commonly served at other shops, Chin Mee Chin’s kaya toast comes in bun rather than bread slices. These buns are made in house and toasted till slightly burnt. Thick layer of kaya is spread on the buns, and the warm toasted buns melt the butter which makes it taste much better.

Besides the popular kaya bun, the old school custard cream puffs and egg tart are popular items in Chin Mee Chin too. It is very popular among diners, the custard cream fills nicely into the soft puff.

Stepping into Chin Mee Chin feels like I went back to the 50s. The marble tables, wooden round chairs, mosaic tiles etc gave me the nostalgic retro feel. Nothing much of this 60-year-old confectionary has changed over the years, likewise for what are on the menu.

For first timers like me, it gets pretty confusing. The waitresses here are really busy and you will have a hard time catching their attention. And if you are alone or in pairs, you will most likely be sharing tables with others. Here’s a tip on what you should do:

  1. Join the long queue.
  2. Grab the table available.
  3. Take some pastries and tarts to start off.
  4. Meanwhile, grab the server’s attention and take order.
  5. Finish drinking your kopi, hurry go and pay money!
