The restaurant is popular for its prime cuts of meat available all-day including beef bugolgi, marinated pork, pork collar, marinated chicken, spicy octopus. During dinner, more premier selection such as marinated ribeye, beef short ribs and prawns will be added. There are also radish pickles, onion sauce, green chilli, enoki mushrooms, tomatoes, kimchi etc which make great accompaniment to the meats. Attention to detail—the raw meats are exceptional—makes the difference.

The grills are turned high. The table starts to hiss. The beef short rib is first to be submitted to the fire. It quickly becomes melt-in-your-mouth delicious. There’s also a juicy and more intense-tasting ribeye. Spicy octopus with spicy gochujang sauce is seared quickly on the grill. It’s tender, enjoyably chewy, not to mention a burst of flavour with every bite!

Kimchi Pork belly is marinated for hours and the natural sweetness is deepened by the fermented vegetables eclipsing it. Let the pork belly stretch out and watch the faintest ripple as it starts to feel the heat. Cook some kimchi on the top and when all is ready, eat it together and you will go “oomph…”.

Then comes the glory of cheese, placed at the corner of the grill, used for dipping the meats. Be patient: It takes a while for the cheese to melt and you should stir it continuously to get a smooth custard-y texture. But trust me, you won’t regret it.

There are various ways to eat the meat.

We first cooked the enoki and bacon separately before wrapping it together and savour it as an entity. Then, when the pork belly is nearly done, we snip the meat with scissors and have romaine leaves ready at the side for folding around the pork, along with a swab of gochujang and sliced garlic. I like to add some grilled cherry tomatoes while help to cut the oiliness. End off by cooking rice with gochujang, kimchi and cheese over the grill and let the grains soak up the juices from the meat.

As for the banchan, the array of small side dishes that come with Korean barbecue, these are equally sumptuous and abundant. The crispy fried chicken is tossed in sweet glaze and the boiled pork belly is less oily yet still as tasty.

Another draw here is DANRO Collagen Hotpot Buffet. Select 2 soup bases from Chicken Collagen, Garlic Pork Collagen, Garlic Pork Spicy, or Sukiyaki. A pot of 2 broths is brought to the table, set on a gas stove, and heated until it boils.

Platters of raw ingredients (beef, chicken, pork, vegetables etc) are available at the buffet table, so feel free to take your pick. Vegetables like cabbage are dropped into the broth first, followed a few minutes later by silvers of pork belly.

I was just as happy eating the meat unswaddled, touched by nothing but you can dip the meat into peanut sesame sauce or yuzu sauce. After having so much BBQ, it’s always good to return to comforting soups to end the meal. The collagen hot pot tastes sweeter with cabbage; while the sukiyaki is not overpowering and good for meats. The ambience is fun and casual, and everyone was making conversations while cooking on the table.
