Dallas Restaurant and Bar – 10th Birthday at Suntec City’s Sky Garden
March 22, 2016
Dallas Restaurant and Bar is a contemporary restaurant that offers a myriad of hearty meals, bar bites with modern flair, a good selection of wines and a variety of beers and tipples to quench any thirst. Many would already be familiar with its first restaurant at Boat Quay. Well, this second spectacular restaurant is opened in celebration of Dallas’ 10th anniversary!
Located at Suntec City’s relative new sky garden, the exquisite glass house style design boasts a classier and more elegant setting. This second restaurant easily accommodates 92 guests indoors and offers a 360-degree view of the Suntec City area. There is also a large al fresco space with an eye-catching shimmering pool feature and seats for 70 guests. Upon entering, an impressive island bar takes centre stage with its gleaming black marble top, ceiling-to-floor bottle display and slick, leather high-chairs. In the day, natural light would stream in but the high ceiling ensures that the restaurant is still cooling and provides diners with a comfortable environment. Its high ceiling also gives the restaurant an impressive feel of vast spaciousness. In the evening, the restaurant exudes a romantic vibe as the sun sets slowly while the glass walls afford a striking panorama of the Marina Bay skyline.
This restaurant and bar holds between 250 – 300 guests for cocktail parties and corporate events. Formula One enthusiasts will be pleased to know that the restaurant is just a stone’s throw away from the annual Singapore Night Race course. Although you can’t catch the Formula One race, you can still indulge in the entire atmosphere of excitement. Large TV screens at the bar and outdoors also screen all major sporting events.
Diners will be spoilt for choice when it comes to picking a starter or appetizer at Dallas Restaurant and Bar. Each is executed to perfection and showcases modern takes on traditional appetizers that serve to pique the palate for better things to come. We started off with Snapper Fish Tacos ($22 for 3 pieces) which consists of chunky pieces of snapper dipped in a light batter and deep-fried till crisp perfection. A homemade pineapple chutney comprising honey, onions, pineapple and hint of vinegar, is spread on mini flour tortillas before each is topped with slivers of Spanish onions and cabbage. The fish is then laid on the nest of veggies and the final touch is a generous drizzling of Chipotle mayonnaise and garnished with strips of baby radish. Lime wedges offer the diner added acidity if they so desire. We ranked this appetizer as the number one appetizer at Dallas Restaurant and Bar, superb!
Another three-piece starter bite we tried comes in the way of an absolutely sinful Crispy Pork Belly Tacos ($14 for 3 pieces). Each portion of pork belly comes with crunchy crackling and the meat is melt-in-the-mouth tender. Each mini taco starts off with a guacamole spread before the pork is placed on top and covered in a subtle aioli. This is then topped with pickled Spanish onions and slices of fresh jalapeno for a fiery finish.
Jalapeno Croquettes ($15 for 4 pieces) are delish nuggets of mashed spuds mixed with béchamel sauce, shredded cheddar and chopped pickled jalapeno peppers before they are fashioned into spheres, breaded and deep-fried. These are served with a fiery green chilli mayonnaise which we felt, complements the heaviness of the croquette.
For those who love the simplicity of sweet corn with their mains, the Grilled Corn ($6) at Dallas Restaurant and Bar is a must. Roasted to tender perfection, each ear is then topped with Chipotle mayonnaise and sprinkled with a generous shaving of Parmesan cheese.
Here comes the highlight of our night – the two NEW anniversary dishes on the a la carte menu only at Suntec City’s Sky Garden restaurant – Prime Rib Steak and the Dallas Meat Platter. Prime Rib Steak ($40) consists of 100-day grain fed Australian beef. A slab of prime rib is lightly seasoned and slow roasted for 15-18 hours before 250g is sliced and finished on the grill for perfect medium-rare doneness. This is then served with French fries, salad or seasoned vegetables. On weekends, guests can enjoy FREE-FLOW of this premium cut at only $35 per person.
Dallas Meat Platter ($70 for two/$130 for four) showcases four different succulent meats mainly, grilled Australian lamb cutlets, pork ribs which are marinated in either a tangy sweet berry glaze or a fiery BBQ sauce before they are slow cooked for two hours, Rotisserie chicken immersed in a special sauce overnight and finished off with a dry chilli rub before the chook is roasted for three hours and the prime rib steak cooked medium-rare. A generous serving of roasted potatoes sits under the stack of meat and each platter is accompanied by a mushroom or black pepper sauce and choice of mustards.
Happy hour at Dallas Restaurant and Bar starts at 11am and ends at 8pm daily. Diners get to enjoy house pour wines and spirits for only $12++ and Stella Artois and San Miguel go for only $14++ per pint. It’s a lovely location to chill after a long, boring day at work. Besides, we are so attracted by their free-flow steak weekend special so much so that we don’t mind returning to the restaurant to relax over the weekend with our family and friends.
