Chinese New Year is arriving earlier than usual this year, and we are definitely excited about all the good food that’s in store. Reunion feasts are always a highlight and it’s no different this year as we ushered in the Year of the Rabbit with Dian Xiao Er’s Chinese New Year Set Menus, YuSheng, as well as CNY Frozen Pack Bundles, featuring scrumptious yet comforting dishes that symbolise good health and wealth.

These exclusive dishes are only available in Dian Xiao Er’s CNY set menu (not available as a la carte items) from 19 December 2022 to 5 February 2023.

First up, the Infinite Fortune Prawn with Cornflakes (遍地黄金笑哈哈）which is an addictive combination of succulent deep-fried prawns and fragrant, crunchy cereal bits, is just brilliant. I like that the prawn shells are neatly slit so that the shells can be easily removed — yay to that! Fresh and plump, the prawns had a good bite and were full of that distinctive natural sweetness that we couldn’t get enough of.

The Prosperity Sweet & Sour Pork Ribs（松子添福甜酸骨) promises succulent and tender pork ribs which are first deep fried, before being coated in a fabulously sticky sweet and sour sauce. The ensemble is then sprinkled with roasted pine nuts. It’s alluringly aromatic and finger licking good! The addition of pine nuts is undeniably a clever touch — not only does it add a great crunch, its characteristic nuttiness takes the dish up a notch, and complements the pork ribs perfectly. We are confident that this will be a huge hit with both the young and old!

A contemporary twist on a perennial favourite, the Stir-fry Scallops, Cordyceps Flower & Celtuce with Mushroom Sauce (碧玉如意炒带子）is dressed in a creamy mushroom sauce that is bound to tickle your fancy. Expect springy scallops that have been cooked flawlessly, and a myriad of flavours in this nutritious dish.

An opulent dish built with the finest gem of the sea, the Braised Abalone with Egg Tofu (鸿运鲍鱼伴金砖）embodies fortune and happiness. The smooth, silky golden egg tofu which adequately soaks up Chef’s Special Housemade Miso Sauce, is the best accompaniment to the luxurious abalone and crunchy enoki mushroom. This is perfect for sharing with your loved ones!

Of course, don’t forget to order their Herbal Roast Duck (招牌药材烤鸭）which is an absolute must-have! Prepared and roasted in the kitchen daily, the specially bred ducks are first marinated in a myriad of herbs and spices for hours. They are then roasted till the skin is crisp to the touch and golden brown in appearance, while the juicy flesh is tender and full of enchanting herbal notes.

The Wonderfour CNY dishes are debuting alongside the ever-sought after Smoked Salmon YuSheng ($38 medium, $60 large), and Abalone YuSheng ($46 medium, $68 large)! The yusheng showcases freshly grated duo-coloured carrots with sweet plum sauce. Best part? Dian Xiao Er has prepared a YuSheng Guide, so everyone can get in on the Lo Hei action!
