10 Fascinating Chiffon Cakes in Singapore (Rainbow or Durian For You?)
March 02, 2017
Chiffon cakes are quite a common find here, especially our most beloved Pandan chiffon cake. However, do you know that there are many interesting flavours, with unique designs, as well? Did someone say Rainbow chiffon cake? Or Orh Ni chiffon cake? Well, here are 10 different chiffon cakes that range from those infused with local flavours to those infused with citrusy flavours.
Rainbow Chiffon Cake
On a dull day when you’re feeling drained, this is the cake that will lift your mood instantly. The rainbow colours make it so attractive, and you can get it affordably at $6.90 per cake – perhaps the cheapest rainbow dessert in Singapore! There’s a strong coconut fragrance and the cake tasted lighter and fluffier than expected. Our only complaint is the soggy pink bottom layer of chiffon. It would have been better if the cake has been cooled down properly before being packed to avoid the soggy-ness.

Yam Orh-Ni Chiffon Cake
Inspired by the popular Teochew dessert, Orh-Ni, this chiffon cake has homemade orh-ni (yam) and cream layered generously in between light and fluffy sponge. There’s even 2 mini gingko nuts on top of each slice of cake. The cream reminds us of the simple and old-school kind of cream cake we always had when we were kids. Each slice of Orh-Ni chiffon cake goes for $4.10.

Durian D24 Chiffon Cake
Durian chiffon cake, seriously?! Visitors from overseas might shun this, as they would imagine it to be pungent. However, it doesn’t smell as strong as the actual durian fruit. Creamy D24 durian is blended perfectly together with the soft chiffon. Sadly, it tasted a little artificial, somewhat similar to the cylindrical durian paste cake that’s commonly found in Malaysia and Bangkok. Each slice costs $2 and the whole cake is priced at $18.
