Hammee’s – Affordable Gourmet Burger Stall Makes a Return at Commonwealth Crescent Market & Food Centre!
December 10, 2021
Hammee’s is back once again, serving up affordable artisanal burgers in Commonwealth Crescent Market & Food Centre. Their brief closure earlier this year saw them selling Nasi Ayam Goreng and Nasi Lemak instead, but now they’re back in business with new and improved tweaks to their gourmet burgers.
If you’ve been a fan of Hammee’s Burgers since their early days in 2018, you’ll be pleased to know that all three of their burgers have made a return on their menu, namely the Classic Beef Cheeseburger ($7.50 for single, $11 for double), Crispy Fried Chicken Burger ($7) and Hand Battered Fish Burger ($7 for single, $9.50 for double).
Extra toppings such as American cheese ($0.70) and smoked pork bacon ($2) can also be added to really zhng up your burger experience.
I went for a single Classic Beef Cheeseburger, which came with caramelised onions, chopped pickled jalapenos, homemade sauce, melted American cheese, and Australian grass-fed beef chuck patty between perfectly toasted buns. While the beef patty was amazingly tender and juicy, I felt the tanginess from the homemade sauce overpowered the beefy flavours quite a bit. It tasted a lot like tartar sauce, which is an unusual pairing with beef.
I’d recommend either splashing out on a double or balancing the strong flavours out from the sauce by adding lettuce and tomato ($0.50).
The Crispy Fried Chicken Burger had always been a popular choice among patrons and I could definitely see why. The thick crispy chicken thigh is slathered with a homemade slaw and Hammee’s special burger sauce. Sinking my teeth into the meaty, well-marinated chicken was absolute bliss, and I adored the refreshing crunch from the slaw.
You can opt for original, spicy or extra spicy. The spicy options are tinged with roasted garlic and peppers for that extra punch to further enhance the flavours of the chicken.
The final burger that had undergone a few improvements was the Hand Battered Fish Burger. Using Alaskan pollock, the fish filet was covered in a light, crispy batter that had been slightly seasoned before the frying stage. It was wonderfully flaky and paired well with the homemade fish burger sauce(which was a lot like tartar), and slice of American cheddar.
All burgers come with a side of Hammee’s special triple-cooked fries. They reminded me of potato wedges, and had a nice crispy exterior.
Be prepared to wait a little though! The popular stall is no stranger to queues. Hammee’s is definitely worth every penny and every minute spent in the queue, especially the Crispy Fried Chicken Burger and Hand Battered Fish Burger.
