Happiness Healthy Fish Meat Soup – Hearty and Comforting Fish Soup!
May 10, 2021
A wholesome and comforting bowl of fish soup is sometimes what I crave, even in this heat. So when I first found out about Happiness Healthy Fish Meat Soup, I knew I had to visit it. I heard that there are a few outlets around. I happened to be in the west, hence I went to the stall in Clementi. Although the stall that I visited is in the wild wild west, it was quite worth the trip.
Everything on the menu looked like a bountiful meal. I had a tough time deciding as it all looked so good! I got the Signature Yi Pin Soup ($8) with thick bee hoon and Batang Fish Maw Soup ($5) with rice ($0.50). One unique feature about this stall is that it offers fried beancurd as an add-on item ($1.30). I added the fried beancurd into the Yi Pin Soup as I thought it would go well together.
The Signature Yi Pin Soup comprises clams, fish maw, sliced fish and fried fish and bitter gourd. They were quite generous with the portions! Can we just take a moment to appreciate the pretty turquoise bowls too?
The sliced fish was quite thick and large, yet it was tender and smooth, and very easy to bite through! Unfortunately, the fish skin still had some scales on it, but, thankfully, it didn’t affect the taste of the fish much.
The crisp fried fish slices were not overly fried, and the flesh inside was still easy to bite through. I love how the pieces were huge, and how exceptionally well they soaked up the warm soup.
As for the clams, I found them to be super fresh! There was also a hint of sweetness in the soup that came from the clams. The fried beancurd was another genius addition to the bowl. The parts that were not submerged in the soup remained crispy, while the rest of it soaked up the soup easily, making every bite a tasty one with a burst of soup.
The Batang Fish Soup with rice is quite a good value-for-money meal! For a regular-sized portion($5), the soup contains quite a lot of ingredients which include fish maw, Batang fish slices, and bits of fried batter, and fried onions sprinkled on top. The fried onions made the soup a little more flavourful!
I opted for the addition of milk to my soup which turned out to be quite flavourful! The soup was silky smooth and very comforting. The fish maw was cut into large, thin rings. I would have preferred smaller squares of fish maw as they would soak up the soup more easily. But it’s still great to have a premium seafood item in my bowl!
All in all, I think that Happiness Healthy Fish Meat Soup would make your day if you’re looking for a simple and comforting meal, or a filling and satisfying one. Thankfully, there are other outlets, which are nearer to me, so I can still get a great bowl of fish soup without travelling all the way to the west. Fingers crossed that they have the same standards!
