i12 Katong – Exciting New Bites and Brews in the Vibrant East Side of Singapore
December 26, 2024
i12 Katong has always been a place where food and community come together, and the new dining spots here sure take that to the next level. From cozy cafés to exciting international flavours, i12 Katong offers something to delight every palate.
Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite, catching up with friends, or indulging in a family feast, the new dining spots here will make every meal a memorable one.
Greybox Coffee
After a workout at i12 Katong, my go-to spot for a post-exercise treat is Greybox Coffee. There’s nothing like winding down with one of their expertly-crafted drinks. My top picks? The Dirty Mocha with its rich chocolatey undertones that strike a perfect balance with the espresso, and the Coconut Coffee, a smooth, tropical blend that feels like a mini getaway in a cup.
For something more substantial, I alternate between the Smoked Chicken and Egg Mayo Sandwich, which comes with a fresh salad and crunchy granola yogurt, and the warm and hearty American Beef Pie, the perfect comfort food to pair with coffee.
Edith Patisserie
For as long as I can remember, Edith Patisserie has been one of my trusted places to get birthday cakes. What makes Edith Patisserie so special is the utmost care and premium ingredients they put into every dessert.
One of our absolute must-haves is their fudgy, rich, and decadently chocolatey Brownie Party which is perfect for sharing (though I’ve been guilty of sneaking an extra piece for myself). It’s become a favorite at gatherings, with everyone reaching for these irresistible treats.
When it comes to cakes, their 4” Mini Rainbow Frosted Cake has been a hit with both kids and adults alike. Its vibrant colors and light, fluffy layers always add a festive touch to our celebrations. And then, there’s their elegant Yuzu Osmanthus Cake, which has this delicate balance of citrus and floral notes, making it a crowd-pleaser every time.
Tim Hortons
Tim Hortons brings a touch of Canada to Katong, perfectly blending cozy vibes with the charm of colorful Peranakan shophouses. With an inviting indoor and outdoor seating, it’s an ideal spot to unwind, sip coffee, and soak up the lively vibes of the neighborhood.
On my visit, I couldn’t resist starting with the Honey Cruller and Daily Brew set ($6), a light yet satisfying pairing that set the tone for the day. Next, I tried the Lemon Glaze Muffin and another hot coffee ($6)—a great breakfast combination any chocolate and coffee lover would appreciate.
The highlight for me, though, was the Maple Glazed Chicken Ham & Cheese Croissant set($8). The croissant was perfectly flaky and buttery, with a delightfully good portion of savory ham and hint of sweet maple glaze. I decided to upgrade my Daily Brew to a Café Latte for $2.50, which rounded the meal off nicely. These sets are available for breakfast — early birds catch the good deals!
Xi Tang
Craving for dessert after a full meal? Head to Xi Tang as this sweet haven offers a menu filled with traditional favourites and modern creations.
I started with something savoury—the Braised Beef Brisket Noodles ($12). Tender chunks of beef, a rich broth, and springy noodles make for a comforting start.
Then came the desserts, and Xi Tang certainly did not disappoint. The Mango Pomelo Sago with Mango Ice Cream ($8.50) was a refreshing burst of tropical sweetness, with creamy ice cream and juicy pomelo bits. The Red Bean Mochi ($7 for 3 pieces) was chewy, soft, and packed with a delightful red bean filling. Finally, I couldn’t resist the HK Style Iced Red Bean, a classic dessert drink that was oh-so-nostalgic.
Sushi Zanmai
I can’t tell you how excited I am that Sushi Zanmai has opened at i12 Katong! As someone who loves Japanese food, this is a dream come true. Now, you can have fresh, high-quality sushi and tasty Japanese dishes, conveniently in the heart of Katong.
I started with the Salmon Sashimi (7 pcs) ($11.80). The thick, buttery slices were incredibly fresh and satisfying, and excellent value for money! For my main course, I went with the Sukiyaki (Angus Beef) ($15.80) which was a standout. The generous slices of tender beef, and delicious warm broth, won me over instantly.
To add a fun twist, I tried the Kyoho Soda and Shikuwasa Soda ($3.80 each). They’re light, refreshing, and the perfect palate cleansers. And let’s not forget the House Sake (Junmai Ginjo) ($8.80 for 160ml)—smooth, aromatic, and the ideal pairing for any dish.
Having Sushi Zanmai at i12 Katong is such a treat! Whether you’re a sushi lover or just looking for a cozy spot with authentic Japanese flavors, this is the place to visit. I can’t wait to come back for more!
