Jin Hock Seafood Restaurant – Find Local Favourites With Modern Twists Here
August 03, 2023
In a city bustling with local favourites with modern twists, one hidden gem in Tampines manages to retain its charm and authenticity. Jin Hock Seafood Restaurant may not be widely known outside its neighborhood, but for those in the know, it’s a go-to spot for mouthwatering zi char dishes.
Chef-Owner Yap Yew Hock has elevated heartland Chinese zi char to new heights, offering restaurant-quality food that has earned a loyal following. With three outlets across Singapore (in Tampines, Ang Mo Kio and Chai Chee), Jin Hock Seafood Restaurant has slowly gained recognition while maintaining its charm.
During our visit to the Tampines outlet, we were treated to an array of unique zi char dishes, but one stood out in particular – the double-flavored hor fun. This creative medley of hor fun combines smooth, velvety noodles, a thick broth, and crispy, deep-fried hor fun.
The dish comes adorned with tender meat, clams, and vibrant leafy greens. Combining both textures results in a great mouthfeel, making this one of the most well-thought-out zichar dishes we’ve savoured recently – a successful twist on a classic dish.
Crepe Seafood Duck is another dish we tried. Encased in a thin egg crepe wrap is a sweet and savory seafood paste along with a slice of tender duck meat and crispy duck skin. It was a burst of contrasting textures that left me delightfully surprised.
The Thai-style fish was another highlight for me. The fresh sea bass bathing in a fragrant gravy, garnished with tomatoes, brinjal, and ladyfingers, truly brought the flavours of Thailand to my palate. We also had the Thai Style Signature Pig Trotters – a generously portioned deep-fried trotter boasting a crispy exterior, and succulent meat, dressed with a sweet and tangy Thai sauce and julienned cucumber.
The Salted Egg Eggplant left us pleasantly surprised. These eggplant fries’ delightfully crisp exterior perfectly matched their juicy, soft interiors. Tossed in salted egg sauce, they made for an addictive appetizer that left us craving more.
The menu at Jin Hock Seafood Restaurant is extensive, with other standout dishes such as Milky Fried Oyster Mushroom, Crispy Deep Fried Pork with Garlic, Prawn Rolls, Paper Wrapped Chicken, and Coffee Pork Ribs, all waiting to be savoured.
True to its Chinese zi char roots, the food at Jin Hock Seafood Restaurant is bold and packed with punchy flavours that tantalize the palate in all the right ways. Each dish is meticulously executed, ideal for sharing among groups.
Our hearts are already set on returning to Jin Hock Seafood Restaurant to discover even more of their delightful zi char offerings.
