Kedai Kopi Yoong Seng – Delicious Guang Ji Wanton Mee, Rich Kopi Peng & Silky Beancurd
April 25, 2025

Finally back in JB for another makan adventure—and this time, my videographer threw me a challenge: eat within RM100. Eh, no problem lah! Challenge accepted.
Our first stop? Kedai Kopi Yoong Seng—a local breakfast spot in Johor Jaya that’s home to the much-talked-about 廣記云吞面 and house-made beancurd. I’m not the most organised foodie when it comes to planning makan routes—if I crave something, it goes into the list, regardless of the detour. That day, I was seriously craving wanton mee. So, wanton mee it is.
It took about 20 minutes to drive from the checkpoint, and the moment I stepped in, I knew I struck gold. Every table had this towering glass of kopi peng—cold, dark, glorious. I caved and got one. Wah piang eh, that kopi peng was incredible—super gao, smooth, and just the right sweetness. It jolted me awake and cooled me down instantly. I’d go back just for that coffee.
Then came the star: Wanton Mee. Tossed in fragrant lard oil and dark soy sauce, the noodles gleamed under the light. Just mixing it, I could already smell that nostalgic aroma. It had the perfect QQ texture—not soggy, with that satisfying bite. The plate came with slices of char siew, crispy fried wanton, and soup wanton on the side. The chili sauce? Shiok and punchy, but you can opt to have it on the side too.
Of course, being greedy, we also ordered a small platter of fried yong tau foo to go along with our noodles. The must-try? Their “fried golf ball” meatballs—crispy on the outside, juicy and savoury on the inside. It’s no wonder everyone orders it.
We ended our meal on a sweet note with a bowl of their homemade beancurd. Smooth like silk, warm, and comforting. You can choose your syrup—I went with gula melaka (because local gula melaka is always better right?). So fragrant, with that signature smoky caramel flavour, it just made everything complete.
For RM100? I could makan all these and still have change to tapao kopi peng. JB makan trip off to a great start!
