Kiseki Japanese Buffet Restaurant: 5 Reasons Why They Have Long Queues
September 16, 2012
It was a Saturday night. We came to Orchard Central. It was pretty quiet there. Took the lift up to Level 8, the minute the lift door opened, we could hear the crowd a few metres away. Almost all the restaurants were bustling with diners, a very different sight from the first floor of the mall.
Particularly, Kiseki Japanese Buffet Restaurant had one of the longest queue that went all the way to the escalator. Despite being at its new location for barely 4 months (they moved to Orchard Central from Heeren), Kiseki was already full house. Why do they have long queues?
1. Oooh Fresh Seafood!
At just ONE PRICE; Cold Seafood, Sushi, Sashimi, Teppanyaki, Robatayaki (Japanese grill), Yakitori (skewers), Nabemono (hot pot items), Agemono (deep-fried), Mushimono (steamed items), Japanese Western (pasta and pizza) and much much more are UNLIMITED!
Blue Swimmer Crab, Chilled Prawns, Half-shell Mussels, Crayfish, Vongole Soaked in Cold Sake, Spicy Bamboo Clam, you say it, they have it! Fresh seafood selection!
And if you want something healthy, there is also a salad / soba corner accompanied with different Japanese sauces and salad dressings prepared from home-made recipes. Picture above is a bowl of my soba.
2. Endless Servings of Sushi / Sashimi
Sushi lovers can take as many sushi as you want! There are many assorted Sushi Rolls and Maki.
There are also Ebi, Salmon, Tuna, Octopus, Jellyfish, Scallop, Marinated Top Shell etc.
3. Yummy Grills
Kiseki’s buffet is one of action too – the à-la-minute counters provide live cooking where diners can enjoy piping hot food off the stove using the freshest ingredients, prepared right before your eyes.
My favourite is the yummy western grill which is only available for dinner. There are assorted tender meats such as lip-smacking Garlic Ribeye Steak, sizzling Marinated Teriyaki Chicken, Pork Collar with Ginger Sauce etc.
There are also teppanyaki dishes (available all day) such as Ocean-catch Grilled Scallop, Assorted Vegetables etc. When ordering them, you just have to leave a clip of your table number at the station and you don’t have to wait for your food to be cooked. The waiter will just deliver the food to your table.
4. Many Japanese All-Time Favourites
Besides sushi and sashimi, Kiseki also offers Yakitori, Tempura and this Omega-goodness Grilled Salmon Head!
At the buffet line, you can find all time favourites such as Grilled Teriyaki Chicken, Pork with Ginger & Onion, Sauteed Mixed Vegetables, Japanese Oden etc. Complement it with Garlic Fried Rice, Yaki Udon or Yaki Soba for a complete meal.
There are seafood hot pot (habemono), ramen and Japanese mushroom porridge (zousui).
Chawanmushi!
In addition, if you are also craving for some western food, Kiseki serves hearty Pasta dishes to your choice of ingredients and sauce; Wafu, Wafu Pesto, Carbonara or Konkase. Pizza range from Tempura Prawn with Sakura Ebi, Seafood Soba, Japanese Curry, Smoked Salmon and Garden Veggies.
5. Very Tasty Waffles!
I am a huge waffle fan. I can eat at Gelare every week and still love it. This is the only dessert that I can eat everyday without getting bored. But of course, I need good waffles!
When I walked past the Dessert section of Kiseki, there is this very strong waffle aroma. Despite a very filling meal at the hot section, I told myself I must give it a try. OH MINE, I ate 4 pieces of waffles in the end. It was so fragrant and so fluffy! Just drizzle with some honey and I am good to go!
But of course, you can pair it with some gelato. There 5 flavours available that night were Macha, Vanilla, Mango, Cookies & Cream and Chocolate.
Other than waffles, there were also cakes such as Green Tea Cake, Chocolate Caramel Pear Cake and Yuzu Cake.
Pudding lovers can try Green Tea Pudding (Chef Recommendation), Mango Pudding, Blackcurrant Pudding and Calamansi Pudding. And there are fruit chocolate fondue too!
Here’s the Kiseki pricing list, reasonable isn’t it? Yup, those are my 5 reasons why I think they always have long queue. Kiseki has a seating capacity of 280, you can experience the high life of sky high dining concept, overlooking the urban sprawl of the glittering cityscape of Orchard Road with your friends and families. Here’s a Japanese SUMO outside the restaurant!
