Kura Patisserie – Famous Patisserie Now at South Bridge Road!
June 08, 2022
Previously located at Kim Yam Road, Kura Patisserie has found a new home at South Bridge Road alongside other popular cafes such as DAWN and Group Therapy Coffee. Behind Kura are Koo Jee and Rachel (hence the name!), who have a wealth of experience from working in hotels and the likes of Tiong Bahru Bakery.
One of their signatures, the Key Lime Tart ($8.50) was my favourite. As someone who usually prefers my citrusy desserts to be sour and punchy, I was pleasantly surprised by the lighter flavours present in the key lime. The curd was smooth and silky, and the lime flavours still came through. I also noticed that the crust on this was slightly thicker, but I am not complaining as their crust was perfectly buttery and crumbly.
While they are known for their tarts, they also have sweet and savoury viennoiseries on display. The Honey Butter Kouign Amanm ($5.50) was one of the best I’ve had —buttery, with some perfectly caramelised crispy bits on the top, and a fluffy interior.
Their bestseller, La Vie En Rose ($11) was so decadent looking that I could not bear to cut it open. The exterior might lead you to think that it’s strawberry-flavoured tart, but it actually houses a salted dark caramel and chocolate cream within. The saltiness from the caramel contrasted well with the chocolate, and the cocoa nibs provided a nice crunch.
A seasonal special, the Pistachio Tart ($12) could not compare to the other 3 items. Despite the tart comprising pistachio praline and cream, I felt that the pistachio flavours were not very strong. I did like the matcha tart base which was a nice change from the other tarts, as it lent a slight bitterness.
Kura Patisserie continues to deliver with their unique tarts. Besides their tarts, they also have an all day breakfast menu featuring traditional drinks like Kopi and Teh.
