Le Jardin – Floral-themed Garden Cafe with Alfresco Dining Newly Opens at Fort Canning
October 08, 2021
Fancy an afternoon at a gorgeous cafe where you can bask in nature’s beauty with your loved ones? Look no further than Le Jardin, a charming new cafe that’s nestled within Fort Canning.
Le Jardin recently opened in late September, and is the latest venture by Cafe de Nicole’s Flower – known for its unique floral-themed concept.
Le Jardin, which literally translates to ‘Garden’ in French, stays true to its name. It features an open dining area with ample shade provided by the lush green trees above. The garden-like setting makes for the pur-fect place for your furkids to hang!
As I step inside the cafe, I was in awe at the floral paradise in front of me. Flowers of different kinds were everywhere — from the tabletops to the ceilings. The decor seems to be of a Victorian-inspired style with muted wallpapers, dark wood furniture and pretty paintings.
Stepping outside of the floral room leads you to a white corridor filled with rattan barstools and light wood tabletops. Luckily for me, I managed to snag a seat at the corner of the corridor, which unlocked an unobstructed view of the Fort Canning fields and surrounding buildings.
Le Jardin has quite a good spread to choose from. Their Breakfast and Brunch menu is available from opening till 4.30pm, while their Lunch menu is available from 12pm to 3.30pm. The cafe reopens in the evening with a dinner menu that runs from 5.30pm – 9.30pm.
As I arrived in the morning after my leisurely walk around Fort Canning Park, I went with two of their chef’s recommended dishes from the Breakfast and Brunch menu.
I ordered the Potato Rosti ($18.90) which consists of Sunny Side-up Egg, Kurobuta Pork Toulouse Sausage, rosti made from Sebago potatoes, Crème fraîche, and a strip of bacon. As a sucker for runny eggs, I’m pleasantly rewarded with an orange yolk which oozed out with ease after being cut. The sausage gave a satisfying snap once bitten into, revealing juicy meat that had the right amount of savouriness and porky flavour. I recommend dipping the sausage in the Crème fraîche, which had a sweet sauce in the middle that lent the perfect umami. The rosti was fried till golden-brown and had a crispy exterior. Yet, it was still starchy and moist inside, and was also best paired with the Crème fraîche. However, I felt that the bacon was dry.
I also ordered the Portobello Mushroom ($17.90), which features a large Portobello mushroom topped off with Mushroom Ragout and a Sunny Side-up Egg, with a herb salad on the side. The mushroom ragout sauce had a light, creamy consistency that complemented the generous chunks of mushroom mixed in it. The Portobello mushroom resting beneath the ragout was plump and juicy. It had a deeper earthy flavour and slight smokiness to it. The herb salad was drizzled with a tart vinaigrette that’s pretty appetising.
As I polished off the last few bites on my plate, I rested my gaze on the surrounding greenery and people-watched. Overall, Le Jardin is a great Instagram-worthy pitstop to have brunch with family and friends.
