Lean & Rich Bakery – New Bakery With Delicious Pastries & Sourdough Bakes
September 28, 2024
The latest addition to Singapore’s food scene is none other than Lean & Rich Bakery which is known for its exceptional pastries & sourdough breads.
The bakery is headed by Hong Ui Chang, a Korean baker with five years of experience under his belt. He was a head baker at Tartine and executive baker at Figments!
The menu here is split into “Lean” & “Rich”. “Lean” refers to lean dough that contains basic ingredients only, while “Rich” refers to rich dough made with ingredients such as milk, butter and sugar.
I had the Morning Platter from the “Lean” menu and the Pistachio, and Vanilla Croissants from the “Rich” menu.
I choose the Walnut Bread for my Morning Platter ($7.50) and it came with condiments such as honey and whipped butter. The walnut bread had a pillowy interior, and a crisp exterior! Not to mention, it came packed to the brim with walnuts! The whipped butter was light yet creamy and, along with the sweet honey, highlighted the flavours of the sourdough.
The Pistachio Croissant ($7) features a flakey and buttery pastry which is the hallmark of a delicious croissant. Additionally, the pistachio cream in the middle was decadent and rich. If you think that was all, a slab of butter is hidden underneath the cream, making it taste that much richer.
The Vanilla Croissant ($7) has a fragrant and creamy vanilla filling, which is complemented by a tart blackcurrant jam underneath.
Their bakes tend to sell out quite fast, so visit early to avoid disappointment!
