Lucid – New Industrial Chic Cafe in Lavender With Good Coffee & Bakes
March 31, 2020
In recent years, Lavender has been welcoming many hipster cafes. Meet the new kid on the block — Lucid. Having a very simplistic and industrial concept, they serve up some great artisanal coffee and pretty bakes.
Looking for a place for a good morning read or somewhere to just hang and chill with your friends? Lucid might just be what you are looking for! We went there on a weekday morning and I fell in love with the ambience the moment I stepped in.
Providing consultancy and training services in the cafe industry formerly, the owners decided to start their own cafe in February 2020. The minimalistic concept is reflected in their very simple coffee and baked goods menu. Their small selection of pretty cakes are baked in-house daily by their sister company — Thought Bakes.
I was very excited to try out the Cloud Beta 0.1 ($9)! It is so aesthetically pleasing and absolutely Instagram-worthy! A fluffy looking “white cloud” which is made of white chocolate mousse sits atop a yellow shortbread base that tasted a little like butter cookies. The “cloud” was creamy and tasted rather sweet and milky. It housed a generous portion of strawberry basil filling! This slightly sour strawberry filling gave a refreshing burst of flavour to this sweet treat!
Being a brownie fan, I had to try out theirs! The Brownie ($4.50) is topped with some hazelnuts and fleur de sel. While I prefer my brownies to be chewy and soft, their version was more crumbly with a nice crispy crust.
We were working our way through these sweet treats, when the coffee arrived. The Iced White ($6) was just what we needed after indulging in the sweet treats. Looking for a good cuppa coffee to perk you up on a lazy morning? With two shots of Espresso and cold milk, the Iced White will definitely do the trick. If you are a fan of acidic coffee, you are will enjoy the coffee which has a nice balance of a sourness and bitterness.
Lucid’s version of Mocha ($5.50) is made with Valrhona Chocolate, a single shot of Espresso, and steamed milk. Since they had the alternative milk option, I opted to have it with Soy Milk ($0.50) The bittersweet drink also paired really well with the Cloud Beta v0.1. The Valrhona Chocolate was not too overwhelmingly sweet and you could definitely still taste the strong aroma of the Espresso. The Soy Milk however, had quite a strong taste to it. I must say I might have enjoyed the drink better with normal milk.
My best pick was their Hot Chocolate ($5)! I love all things chocolate and its best when the sweetness level is well controlled! Lucid’s comforting cup of hot chocolate is assembled with semi-sweet Valrhona Chocolate, and velvety steamed milk — just about the best combination to have after some cakes!
I will definitely be back to try more of their bakes too!
