My Community Festival Returns With New Additions from 5 to 21 August 2022!
August 02, 2022
My Community Festival returns with its third-edition, donning the theme of ‘My Home Sweet Home’. From 5 to 21 August 2022, they are back blazing with a line-up of activities, some newly introduced! Look forward to a whopping total of 64 events across eight programme series.
Do you love food? Do you like trying new cuisines? If your answer is a resounding yes to both questions, this is for you.
We’re most excited for the newest addition to the line-up – ‘What’s For My Dinner?’! Here, 20 individuals from various cultural backgrounds welcome you to their homes to indulge in their home-cooked specials. From some tasty Thai food to South African Cuisine to Maharashtrian delights, you name it, they have it.
We got our hands on a small sample of Bunny Chow, a South African dish where a hollowed-out loaf of white bread is filled with curry, courtesy of a host Ms Candice Nicole Pretorius. Needless to say, it tasted exceptional.
Allow their food to speak to your heart as you immerse in their cultures through this shared medium we all know and love. This one-of-a-kind experience not only offers you the exposure to the myriad of cuisines present in our colourful society, but also an opportunity to hear the stories your hosts have. Tickets are going at $25 a head for this programme.
Remember the times when you were upset over broken pottery that holds a sense of significance to you? Well don’t toss them away if that happens again.
Transform these fragments into a unique masterpiece with Kintsugi Artist, Winnie Wong! Using a mix of resin and coloured powder, you can repair the broken items, reflect and have fun.
If you have a worn-out “chou chou” that you just cannot bear to toss out, bring it to “Doctor” Jane Cher to patch it back up. Or, be inspired to destress with decluttering consultant Amanda Ling. These are just a few of the experiences available as part of the ‘Find My Fixer’ programme.
Three specific areas — Changi Village, Alexandra Village and Chinatown — are in the spotlight as part of ‘Hello! My Lovely Neighbourhood”. Learn more about the nooks and crannies of these areas and uncover hidden gems.
If you’ve made it this far, here’s a mini preview for you!
Between 5 to 9 August, head over to the humble Changi village and uncover the stories behind the ever popular Mizzy Nasi Lemak or travel back to the past with stories from the owner of Goodman Fashion. You can also pop by the iconic Jacob’s Cafe, where Jacob and his wife serve up hearty Western meals including a Creamy Shepherd’s Pie, Beef Lasagna and Ox Stew, just to name a few.
