Nothing But Cheese Burger (NBCB) – Super Popular Home-Based Burger Biz Opens in Orchard!
March 24, 2022
It is very heartwarming to see home-based businesses take flight. It could be their interesting name, or their delicious burgers, but NBCB deserves every bit of the hype surrounding it right now.
Tommy started NBCB as a home-based business back during Circuit Breaker after an extensive R&D process that saw him trying out over 80 recipes. His burgers were a huge hit and were always sold out. With NBCB’s success, Tommy partnered with his friend Wilson to set up shop in the heart of the city. Freshly opened for just 2 weeks, their open kitchen concept in Orchard Central hides nothing from customers, allowing them to see what is going on behind the scenes.
You cannot go wrong with a classic cheeseburger, and NBCB offers just that with their NBCB ($11.90). You can make it a meal with fries and drinks for an additional $4. I opted for shoestring fries, and topped up a dollar for the Milo Dinosaur.
Let’s start with the star of the show — the burger. It definitely did not disappoint with its smokiness and nice char. Well seared, with a pretty pink centre, the thick patty was crispy on the outside, and so juicy. Their pure Australian grass-fed beef patties had a proportionate amount of fat and meat. The brioche buns were also perfectly toasted, and lavishly buttered for that extra oomph. The fries were slightly under-seasoned for my liking, but were deliciously crispy.
Besides transparency, they also believe in the concept “by Singaporeans, for Singaporeans”. So do not expect your regular American milkshakes here. Instead, have a go at their Milo Dinosaur. It was generously topped with milo powder, and very gao, exactly how a Milo Dinosaur should be.
For a non-beef option, go for the CCB ($8.90) which comes in both spicy and non-spicy options. I had the former and upsized it to a meal, but the spice levels, to me, were rather mild. The chicken was tender, juicy and well seasoned. However, if I had to pick one, I would go with their cheeseburger.
The truffle mayo sauce and the crisscut fries were a match made in heaven. Made from real truffle, truffle oil, parmesan cheese, and of course, mayo, the sauce was dangerously addictive. No wonder they call it the “heart attack sauce”. Once you have a bite of your fries with it, there is no going back. In my opinion, the additional dollar is very, very worth it.
While the menu is rather lean, you can zhng your burger up with add-ons such as sunny side up, crispy bacon, onions, pickles and more. Can’t wait for my next visit to try their “food coma combo”! (DCB with a sunny side up and crispy bacon)
