Pohang Seafood – Live Octopus & Authentic Korean Food at Beauty World!
June 01, 2022
Pohang Seafood brings a slice of Korean cuisine to Singaporeans who have yet to travel. Owned and operated by Koreans, the restaurant offers tasty authentic Korean cuisine. Tucked within a condo in the Beauty World area, Pohang Seafood is known for its large variety of fresh sashimi prepared in-house.
The star of the show definitely has to be the Raw Nakji ($50), also known as live octopus. I was quite squirmish when it first came because it did not stop moving! The suckers of the octopus stuck tightly to the plate, making it hard to pick them.
Traditionally prepared with a drizzle of sesame oil and some sesame seeds, the dish was surprisingly void of any strange taste that I was kind of expecting. It was adequately perfumed by sesame oil. Texture-wise, it had more of a bite as compared to squids, and I made sure I chewed through thoroughly, before swallowing.
Besides sashimi, their menu also includes usual other popular Korean dishes. I was recommended their Suntofu Stew ($16) that came in a whopping large bowl perfect for 2, or even 4 pax I reckon. Not a big Korean stew fan myself, I actually thoroughly enjoyed this warm goodness. Within it were generous portions of ingredients such as prawns and mussels, vegetables, egg and especially soft tofu. I was well satisfied just with the soup and a bowl of rice.
To go with, I had a plate of Seafood Pancake ($18). While the portion was also large for this, I felt that they could have been more generous with the seafood in the pancake.
The constant stream of customers here is testament to their quality, and the friendly staff made my visit even more enjoyable. Pohang seafood should definitely be a place on your list if you’re looking for authentic and generous portions of Korean food.
