Rong Xing Yong Tau Foo – Fresh Yong Tau Foo at Tanjong Pagar Food Centre

Tanjong Pagar Food Centre is a famous trove for good food. It’s especially packed during weekday lunchtime as people working in the CBD make their way here for a more affordable lunch.

We were in the area when we decided to drop by for the famous Rong Xing Yong Tau Foo. You might have heard of this stall because of the family feud between 2 sisters. Years ago, Rong Xing Yong Tau Foo split into 2 stalls, each manned by one sister. Apparently, the sisters weren’t on talking terms and ultimately decided to be competitors in Tanjong Pagar Food Centre.

But we weren’t here for an update on the drama, we just wanted good YTF.

At Rong Xing, the ingredients go for $0.60 a piece. Remember to use the takeaway box if you are intending to dabao.

My partner opted for a healthier soup version with more greens, while I went for the dry version filled with my favourite ingredients. Both bowls had 7 ingredients with noodles and cost $4.80 each.

The clean-tasting soup allowed us to appreciate the mild flavors of the tofu and the natural sweetness of tomato, seaweed and broccoli. This was a healthy, but hearty mid-day meal.

I mixed the sweet sauce and chilli sauce into my noodles. The tasty sauce bound all the ingredients together and made the dish even more satisfying.

I especially liked the meatball which was juicy and firm.

The watercress soup that came with the dry noodles was such a delight. Refreshing and tasty all at the same time, the soup was swimming with crisp watercress. I savoured it thoroughly.

In my opinion, good yong tau foo isn’t something that strikes you as outstandingly delicious. Good yong tau foo promises fresh ingredients, well-cooked noodles, great sauces and a lovely soup. Rong Xing Yong Tau Fu has definitely done well in all aspects.

While in queue, I saw people buying only the ingredients(presumably for home cooking). This is a testament to how awesome the ingredients are.
