Inaugural Flight to Perth in Scoot’s first Boeing 787 Dreamliner!
February 06, 2015
Hi everyone! I am spending the next 5 days in Perth, Western Australia. Tourism Western Australia has planned a list of exciting activities for us, including the visit to Canal Rocks, Margaret River, Fremantle and indulging in chocolate, wine and cheese tasting in Windows & Aravina Estate.
So we took the inaugural flight Perth in Scoot’s first Boeing 787 Dreamliner! The first 787-9, named “Dream Start”, was welcomed at Changi Airport on 2 February 2015. It is the first of 20 787s Scoot will receive over the next few years.
So how different is Boeing 787 Dreamliner? Twenty 787s will effectively triple their current fleet size. Plus they have new and improved seats, streaming movies, and inflight Internet connectivity. There are larger windows, more comfortable cabin pressure and humidity, larger stowage bins, a smoother ride, lower noise, reduced emissions, and a step-change in operating economics.
In addition, if you are looking for a comfortable seat and a quiet environment, go for the Stretch and ScootinSilence seats. The seats in 787 Dreamliner are so comfortable. I can enjoy my food while watching movie or surfing the net. Like a boss, isn’t it? I love the larger overhead bins which means I can pack in extra shopping bag!
So at about 1.30pm, we boarded Scoot’s first 787-9, named “Dream Start”. The 5-hour flight to Perth was comfortable and smooooth. I am not kidding. It felt like I am at home, having lunch and watching movies! For a tiny one-time fee of S$15 online, or S$16 on board, you can watch anything ScootTV has to offer during the entire flight. That’s over 20 popular movies and TV shows! And if you are on ScootBiz, IT’S FREE!
Because it was inaugural flight, we played some games on board. You know musical chairs right? We have to pass around the huge Scoot “aeroplane”. When the music stops, the person who is holding on to it will have to sing! It was fun!
You know what I love about the new 787? IT COMES WITH WIFI! SO COOL! I am a social media addict and it feels so horrible without staying connected online for so many house. But when flying the brand new 787 Dreamline, I can pay a nominal fee to use their wifi and continue to blog! And the higher cabin moisture on board is an added bonus when it comes to my hair!
During my last flight to Scoot, I have tried a variety of different plane food. This time round, I had the soya chicken rice which looks unassuming but quite delicious.
Campbell Wilson, CEO of Scoot, was with us during the flight! So we took the chance to ask for a group photo. He is such a nice man.
I asked Campbell Wilson if he can do a 15 seconds instavideo introduction of 787 Dreamliner. I am so glad he gladly obliged. Here’s the video. We did it within one take!
Look at the colourful lights in the aircraft. Doesn’t it makes you want to dance? Upon arrival in Perth airport, there was even a water cannon salute to welcome the first #787baby. Scoot’s new Dreamliner has set a new standard in low-cost travel. It will definitely bring great value to Scoot’s operations and provide an exceptional experience for Scoot’s passengers. Thank you Scoot for giving me the opportunity to be one of the first to go on Boeing 787 Dreamliner!
In addition to Perth, Scoot’s 787 will be deployed to Hong Kong from today. All other Scoot destinations will progressively convert to 787 between now and August 2015, at which point Scoot will become the first airline in the world to operate an all-787 fleet.
