Soi 11 – New Thai Hawker Worth Trying at Bukit Batok
May 28, 2017
Most people think that Bukit Batok lacks good food, but we’ve written quite a number of delectable stalls around the area, and here’s another one worth trying. Located at the same S11 Foodhouse as Xiang Mei Roasted Meat, Soi 11 is the latest addition to this coffeeshop. Expect a variety of Thai favourites which range from appetisers to soups, and mains. There are even set meals available for 2 to 3 persons.
We began with Home Wrapped Pandan Leaf Chicken ($6 / 3 pieces) served with a special concoction of chilli sauce. The tender chicken meat is infused with a tinge of curry before being encased in pandan leaves to enhance its fragrance. Dip the meat into the tangy and spicy sauce for that extra oomph. It’s good that the spicy level isn’t overwhelming, or else we wouldn’t be able to taste the chicken marinade anymore.
Tom Yam Seafood Soup ($6 small / $10 large) features a mild broth, but the fresh prawns and squids give the broth a nice crustacean flavour. The balance of seafood sweetness with just the right amount of spiciness makes this broth appetising. We might have savoured better ones elsewhere, but if you’re staying around Bukit Batok, and craving for some tomyam soup on a rainy day, Soi 11 is decent enough to satisfy.
Pad Thai ($4), on the other hand, is quite disappointing. The noodles are a tad too mushy, and no grounded peanuts are served with the pad thai. However, they are very generous with the chunks of chicken meat. We would’ve preferred the dish to be more savoury, as we felt it’s too sweet for our liking. Perhaps, Soi 11 would need to work on improving this dish in order to attract more customers.
Prior to this review, we’ve tried Soi 11’s pineapple fried rice and found it to be good. We’ll probably stick to the fried rice and tomyam soup the next time we visit. It’s considered quite expensive for hawker standard, but it’s worth treating yourselves to a good meal after a hard day at work.
