Spices Café – Harvest of the Sea Buffet Dinner
March 15, 2016
Take a weekend off during this school holidays to experience a world of delightful sensibilities at Concorde Hotel along the bustling and vibrant Orchard Road. Enjoy gastronomic delights of both local and Western cuisine at Spices Café after an exhausting day of shopping. Boosting a wide range of dining choices that would have you spoilt for choice, an international buffet style breakfast is prepared in the morning, followed by local flavours served during lunch and ending the day with a delectable seafood buffet dinner.
Spices Café is offering diners fresh ocean catches at their Harvest of the Sea buffet dinner that will last till 31st December 2016. This is an extravagant buffet spread that seafood lovers should not miss out on! Treat your taste buds to the freshest and most succulent seafood dishes, cooked to perfection by the dedicated chefs at Spices Café.
You get to enjoy a heavenly crab feast as the buffet spread offers five/six different crab dishes and other fresh ocean catches, enough to make any seafood enthusiast applause in approval. There are salted egg crab, Saffron crab, their signature black pepper crab, Singaporean’s favourite chilli crab and cold crab. All diners are also entitled to a complimentary serving of gratinated cheese lobster or braised baby abalone with broccoli and mushroom. Not a fan of cheese, fret not as you can also request for the lobster to be infused with local sambal flavours.
The highlight dish for us has got to be their newly launched sautéed Saffron crab, a rich and creamy creation which is bound to leave a lasting impression. Saffron is the most expensive spice in the world and is produced from the Saffron Crocus flower. The stigmas of these flowers can only be painstakingly hand-picked as machines are not delicate enough. Do you know, it takes 250,000 stigmas to make just half a kilo of Saffron?! Hence, its high price but you only need a pinch to taste its strong sweetness.
You can also look forward to savouring the freshest cut of sashimi, fresh oysters, scallops and prawns among many others on Spices Café’s mouth-watering list. Besides the Saffron crab, the top three dishes we felt were worth every count of calorie are the sambal lobster, our local Laksa dish and the braised baby abalone.
The sambal lobster packs a really good punch and we enjoyed the moist and tender meat more as compared to the cheese lobster which we thought was a tad too dry. No doubt the cheese was savoury but it gets a little too overwhelming after a few bites.
The Laksa was superb and a bowl wasn’t satisfying enough for us. The Laksa broth offers the right balance of spice and coconut milk, a distinctive noodle soup that will tickle the tastebuds. We slurped it all right down to the last drop.
The braised baby abalone with broccoli and mushroom is a sumptuous treasure dish, usually eaten during Chinese New Year and the festive season. The abalone at Spices Café was of top grade and quality and braised to perfection. It’s so flavoursome that we were craving for more although we knew that each diner is only entitled to one.
Harvest of the Sea buffet dinner also includes other non-seafood dishes, as well as, a sizzling hot grill station but there was nothing too impressive to shout-out about. Remember to save some room to finish off your meal at their dessert bar, packed with a plethora of sweet treats, pastries and cakes. This certainly sounds like a fabulous way to end your day!
