Stirling Highway – Their Pancakes Are Amazing!
May 15, 2017
Stirling Highway is established by friends who studied abroad together. Cafe hopping, winery road trips, BBQ parties, cookouts and even Masterchef TV marathons were fundamental ways to destress, overcome homesickness, and to have fun with friends. These food and friends centred activities became their haven. Hence, using the road name of the place where the cafe owners called home in the few years they lived abroad, Stirling Highway cafe is created to serve simple, handcrafted and flavour-inspired menu with fresh, wholesome ingredients.
Pulled Pork Pancakes ($14) is one out of five items available for all day brunch. Pulled pork made in-house is piled between three buttermilk pancakes. The dish is served with house made BBQ sauce and whiskey infused maple syrup. The pancakes are well prepared – buttery, a little moist, and not too dense. It’s actually great on its own, even without pulled pork. But, those who prefer savoury over sweet food will like this pulled pork version.
You can also find comfort food such as pasta and pizza on Stirling Highway’s menu. An interesting pasta is the Arrabiata Salmon Tobiko ($16) which contains smoked salmon, flying fish roe, seaweed, tossed in a spicy tomato sauce. This combination gives every mouthful different textures and flavours. It’s not fantastic, but good enough to satisfy your pasta craving.
If you want something light, or for sharing, try the fried chicken wings ($10) tossed in either hot or BBQ sauce. The wings are tender, and there’s a mix of tanginess and sweetness from the sauce. Stirling Highway also serves salad, kid’s meal and desserts.
Stirling Highway’s location is quite inaccessible, unless you drive or take a cab. However, it’s ideal if you’re looking for somewhere tranquil and relaxing to get away from the fast-paced city.
