“Brunch is cheerful, sociable and inciting. It is talk-compelling. It puts you in a good temper, it makes you satisfied with yourself and your fellow beings, it sweeps away the worries and cobwebs of the week.” …. from “Brunch: A Plea” written by Guy Beringer, in 1895 for Hunter’s Weekly.
Indeed, Sunday brunch is a wonderful excuse to avoid yard work. With a few late Saturday nights and all the running around, who wouldn’t welcome a lazy Sunday to recuperate. Whether you are celebrating or recuperating, Boathouse is definitely a wonderful place to round out the weekend.
Boathouse’s French-style Sunday bistro brunch offers exquisite dishes that is set to melt your hearts. Enjoy a bowl of Creameaux of Cauliflower ($19) with a pair of fairly large grilled scallops with smoked caviar. The flavours in this dish are simple but delicious as each one complements the other.
Grilled Asparagus salad ($25) with pancetta, cheese and walnut truffle vinaigrette smells heavenly and there is an explosion of flavour from the pairing of the Italian bacon and the cheese, neatly tempered by the asparagus.
The Egg Benedict($18)is refined, complex, and delicious. The eggs are nicely poached, wobbly with just the right amount of runny yolk. Accompanied by cured Petuna ocean trout and dressed in divine truffle hollandaise sauce, it is a simple variation to an ordinary dish but takes it to another dimension altogether.
I actually prefer my pancake to remain as a dessert or sweet dish. When I first tried the Garlic Prawn Pancake at Strictly Pancake, I thought it was weird. This time round, I had my pancake jazzed up with iberico de bellota ham ($28). The ham is smooth with a mild saltiness, but I still prefer to eat it seperately.
My partner ordered the Dark and white chocolate($15)for his dessert, I took a mouthful and it was pleasing, the chocolate is very smooth, deliciously and decadently dark. Pairing it with toasted bananas and cocoa ice cream, very tempting dish.
I am not a fan of chocolate, so I went for Tarte Tatin Pear William ($15). The tart is topped with crushed candied almonds and vanilla ice cream, abit too sweet for my liking though.
The brunch set ($48++ per person, minimum 2 pax) starts out with a basket of French breads and pastries, soup or a salad and a choice of either eggs or pancakes. If you want to indulge yourself a little more, add another $80++ for a free flow of Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label champagne.
