Tee Kitchen – Delicious Colombian Chicken, Baked Salmon & Crumble in Golden Mile Food Centre!
June 10, 2022
As Singapore’s one and only hawker stall selling Colombian chicken, Tee Kitchen has successfully won over the taste buds and bellies of many with their stunning flavours and satisfying portions. Located within Golden Mile Food Centre, the stall offers their very own tasty rendition of the comforting South American dish, and equally delicious baked salmon. And, they’ve also got dessert covered with their yummy apple and banana crumble!
The husband-and-wife team first started out with a home-based business selling apple and banana crumble before making a pivot into the hawker life in 2020. So what inspired them to serve Colombian chicken? They shared that the recipe actually came from a Colombian family friend who would often cook that very dish during hosted dinners.
It became a staple on their own dinner table, before they decided to share it with the world at their humble stall.
Their lean menu comprises two mains — Colombian Chicken with Special Rice & Salsa ($5.50) and Baked Salmon with Special Rice & Salsa ($8) — as well as Apple Crumble ($2.50) and Banana Crumble ($2.50). They also sell tubs of Teochew Orh Nee at $28!
Without further ado, let’s kick things off with the main star of the show. The chicken thigh and drumstick were doused in a creamy gravy that was mild yet surprisingly flavourful at the same time. The light hint of spices subtly shone through and made for a perfect match with the tender chicken that was super easy to pull apart.
Don’t underestimate their tiny dollop of house-made chilli — this bright red concoction delivered one heck of a potent blow that will definitely win over the hearts of spice lovers all around.
Their special rice was a mystery indeed; as minimal as the seasoning was, the fluffy grains had me consistently gobbling up spoonful after spoonful. I later learnt that it was cooked in olive oil but that still didn’t explain why it was so mysteriously addictive.
Speaking of addictive, their fresh, homemade salsa had me devouring it even faster than the rice. Tangy and sweet, spoon it all up with the rice, chicken and gravy, and you’re golden.
The Baked Salmon with Special Rice & Salsa was as much of a stunner as the Colombian Chicken. The thick slab of salmon was well-cooked through with minimal seasoning to emphasise its naturally fresh and clean flavours. It was topped with a garlic butter blend that included four different types of herbs that were very distinct. There was a hint of sourness that came from the lemon the salmon was resting on.
There’s also the option to add Steamed Vegetables ($1) to your meal, which mostly consists of broccoli and carrots. While they didn’t stand out in any way, they’re the final touch to a well-rounded meal. And you know what they say – eat your veggies, kids.
Be sure to snag their crumble if you can, though it’s only available in limited quantities. Each batch takes 20 minutes to bake in the oven and I received mine in their best form — fresh and piping hot. That was especially true for the Apple Crumble’s cinnamon-spiced apples that had a punchy mix of tanginess.
The crumble on top was mostly made up of crushed biscuits and oats, which gave the entire dessert a pleasant blend of textures. For a slightly sweeter option, the natural sweetness of the bananas in the Banana Crumble makes it an equally appealing choice.
Tee Kitchen definitely stands out from the usual crowd in Golden Mile Food Centre with their delicious offerings, especially when they have knocked their perfectly executed flavours out of the park. And there’s no better place to enjoy the homey flavours of Colombian chicken(especially at such an affordable price)!
