With more cafes and restaurants opening along the street, The Butcher’s Dining stands out with its butchery and dining dual concept. Run by Koreans, the space has a retail section that sells gourmet Korean products that are lesser-known, and more difficult to find.

Myeong In Myeong Chon (MIMC) is one of the brands available, and The Butcher’s Dining carries a large selection of its products. Some of them are even served in their dining concept. Besides those, a wide variety of fresh meats are on display — cuts like skirt, and flap tail are butchered and packaged nicely for your next meal at home. On top of that, they carry homeware items and magazines.

The restaurant, which is located in the same space, has a lean menu of only 4 items. Dressed with royal blue plush chairs and wooden tables, the space was every bit cosy. Every little decoration, from the butchery to the dining area added an aesthetically-pleasing touch.

I had their Spicy Pulled Pork Burger ($18.90), which came with either a side of mesclun salad or sweet potato chips. Despite the burger being on the smaller side, the generous amount of pulled pork made it worth it. The amount of spice in the marinade was not too overpowering, but there was nothing to shout about.

Looking for something sweet? Their dessert menu composes of pound cakes from MIMC and their own cookies. I was half expecting a regular pound cake texture (dry and slightly dense), but the MIMC Jeju Tangerine Pound Cake ($6.90) was nothing like that. Served warm, it surprised me with its moist and soft texture. The tanginess was well balanced with the sweetness from the icing, and I really enjoyed it. The cake was gone in minutes.

All of their drinks are also from MIMC, and I ordered a MIMC Iced Lemon Ginger Tea ($7.80) to quench my thirst. Again, their drinks are on the slightly pricey side. My beverage was refreshing, and had a nice kick from the ginger.

Not like your average K-mart, The Butcher’s Dining offers a more elevated shopping and dining experience. My only hope is that they expand their menu.
