This isn’t just any hotpot chain—Zhang Hui Mei, Simu Liu, and Tony Leung Chiu-wai are fans, so I had high expectations.

Originating from Shanghai in 2004, The Dolar Shop has expanded across the USA, Canada, Australia, and China, and now it’s finally here! Known for meticulously crafted broths, premium ingredients, and an elevated dining experience, it’s hotpot on a whole new level.

The Best Part? No Sharing Needed!

One thing that instantly won me over is that everyone gets their own individual pot. No more fighting over the soup base or dealing with someone who doesn’t like spice (looking at you, Karen). It’s perfect for business lunches too—no awkward double-dipping moments with your boss!

What We Ordered & Loved

I started with the Chef’s Creamy Pork Broth, and let me just say—it was incredible. Rich, creamy, and packed with deep, savoury goodness, every spoonful was comforting and umami-laden. My friend opted for the Duo Pot with Spicy Broth and Tomato Broth, which was a fantastic combination of heat and tanginess. The Spicy Broth had just the right amount of kick without being overwhelming, while the Tomato Broth was slightly sweet and super addictive. But what truly stood out was the Black Truffle Mushroom Broth. The moment the pot arrived, the earthy aroma of black truffle filled the air. Each sip of the broth was pure indulgence, with a deep umami flavour that enhanced everything we dipped into it.

The broths are incredible, but the magic really happens when you pair them with high-quality ingredients. We went all out, starting with the Australian Live Lobster. If you’re hosting an office lunch, go big with this! You can either cook the fresh lobster meat in the soup or request for a luxurious Lobster Pao Fan. Either way, it’s a showstopper.

The Seafood Platter was super worth it at $39.99 and came with a generous spread of clams, mussels, fish, and prawns, all incredibly fresh and sweet. We also tried the Premier Cru Beef Thick Cut at $39.99, and let me tell you—the marbling on this beef was absolutely gorgeous. Each bite was buttery, tender, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious.

Another must-try is The Dolar Shop Shrimp Pate. At $21.99, this handmade delicacy had the perfect bouncy texture and a natural sweetness that made it stand out from any other shrimp paste I’ve tried. To balance out all the richness, we got a Veggie Basket ($19.99), filled with crisp, farm-fresh greens that added a refreshing crunch to our meal. Of course, we couldn’t pass up on the Tri-Colour Hand-Crafted Noodles ($6.99), which soaked up all that broth goodness and rounded off the hotpot experience beautifully.

Ending on a Sweet Note

If you have space for dessert (and even if you don’t, trust me, you’ll want to make room), go for the Durian Pancake at $17.99. I absolutely loved this. The pancake was soft and delicate, and the durian filling inside was luxuriously creamy, fragrant, and so satisfying. Durian lovers, this is an absolute must-try!
