The Jungle Boy – New Brunch & Dinner Spot in Telok Ayer
June 07, 2022
Taking over the unit formerly occupied by Shake Farm, The Jungle Boy is a new establishment sitting on the same stretch as famous cafes such as Plain Vanilla and French Fold. Freshly opened for around a month, The Jungle Boy has similar vibes to Shake Farm — nature-inspired, but with additional aesthetically-pleasing light fixtures.
A brunch classic, the Smashed Avo ($25) delivered unexpected flavours. I liked the generous amount of Salsa Macha, and especially the fragrance from the dried peppers. My eggs, however were unevenly poached — one was completely overcooked. Also, the avocado was so little I barely tasted it. The spiced chickpeas were a nice addition though, giving the dish a nice crunch. I did not think that this dish was worth its hefty price tag.
What caught my eye was their $1 coffee promotion, which is available with every purchase of their Danish pastries. I had an Iced Latte with oat milk. While some cafes charge more for oat milk, The Jungle Boy offers it at the same price as regular milk. The coffee here is on the acidic side, with a lingering bitter aftertaste. There were Croissants, Pain Au Chocolat and Apple Turnover to choose from pastries-wise. Don’t expect top quality pastries here, but the promotion makes this spot a nice go-to if you’re in the area.
Besides brunch, they do also have an extensive dinner menu, and a wide selection of beer on tap for after-work drinks.
