The hipster urban farming place Sprout Hub welcomes a new addition to its canteen — Tres Gorderas — which translates to three fatsos.

The food stall has a latin-inspired menu created by the chef from Coexist Coffee Co.

From the menu, you can choose one base and one protein for your mains. There are three different bases such as the Burrito Wrap, Tortilla Chips, and Straight Cut Fries. Next, choose from the stall’s protein selection such as Chicken Salsa ($12), Pork Carnitas ($12), BBQ Steak ($12), and Falafel & Hummus ($10).

I ordered the Pork Carnitas Burrito Wrap ($12) which consists of Turmeric Rice, Guacamole, Mexican Beans, Pico de Gallo, Sriracha Mayo, and pork stuffed neatly inside a wrap that’s toasted till golden brown.

The slow cooked Pork Carnitas was moist and tender and was complemented well by the creamy guacamole and soft beans. If it’s too creamy for your liking, pile on some of that Pico de Gallo which lends a fresh tanginess to the dish. However, I was disappointed by the turmeric rice as the grains were too hard to munch on. Nevertheless, this burrito was definitely a filling meal that will keep you full throughout the day.

Next up, I ordered the BBQ Steak Tortilla Chips ($12) comprising Shredded Cheese, Cream Cheese, Guacamole, Jalapeno, and Pico de Gallo Spring Onion. At first glance, the portion looked huge so I would recommend sharing this with a friend.

Each hand-tossed tortilla chip is generously layered with melted shredded cheese which I thoroughly enjoyed with the dollops of thick guacamole, cream cheese and beef. The beef chunks were tender and had a slight smokiness. The dish would have been too jelak if not for the heat of the jalapeno slices and tanginess of the pico de gallo to balance the flavours out.

The menu also offers add-ons to go along with the mains. I decided to go for the Falafel ($3) which are Deepfried Ground Chickpeas. The exterior was crisp and had an excellent crunch. The chickpeas were flavourful, though a little dry.

If you’re planning to make a trip down to Sprout Hub for lunch, Tres Gorderas might be a great option as you unwind in the spacious canteen.
