Welcome to our NEW column, Weekend Bites in 2017 that is sure to become your best friend from now on! A new issue will go live every Friday evening, just in time for you to plan your lunch or dinner dates coming up for the weekend. Ranging from the latest restaurants arriving in town and exciting new menus, to must-go foodie events, we’ve absolutely got your back. We’re really living up to the cliche phrase “New Year, New Us”, aren’t we?
So, here is our first issue of Weekend Bites coming your way. We’ve literally got you covered from breakfast and high tea, all the way to supper. So, what are you waiting for?! Tune in and you will never feel hungry again, we promise.
Wildseed Cafe
Singapore Aerospace Park is going to be the next hotspot for our tiny island, and the gorgeous laid-back Wildseed Cafe is located within the premises. The relaxing ambience amidst the herbs and spices garden, with no sightings of skyscrapers, makes one imagine as if he’s on a vacation. The menu features sandwiches, with ingredients sourced from local farms, as well as, harvested straight from their garden. There is even a vegetarian series of sandwiches. Fussy eater? You can DIY your own sandwich and salad, with a good balance of proteins, condiments and sauces. You can choose between pulled pork, braised beef brisket and poached barramundi for proteins and a wide variety of fresh greens. Sauces selection include hummus, wild chilli sauce and yoghurt sauce. DIY comes in platters for 2, 3, 4 and 8 pax. Don’t forget to end your lovely meal with desserts such as the ginger flower banana loaf, citronella passionfruit cheesecake, pea flower coconut muffin and more.

Tiong Bahru Bakery
A Raffles City Exclusive. For the first time, Tiong Bahru Bakery is turning up the heat by introducing a new Hot Eats menu for an enjoyable time. Available from 11am onwards, head down during your lunch break to tame your growling tummies. From the refreshing vegan Quinoa Farmer’s Plate ($14) to the hearty The Great TBB Fry Up ($20), Tiong Bahru Bakery’s simple dishes done well will whisk you off your feet.

HATTENDO Cafe
Newly opened on the third of this month, HATTENDO Cafe is bound to satisfy all pastry lovers with 5 delightful flavours of cream buns – Azuki Beans, Chocolate, Matcha and of course, their signature flavours – Whipped Cream as well as Custard Cream. The pillowy-soft bun encases an airy and velvety smooth custard cream – I bet you can’t help stuffing another and another into your mouth. May Hiroshima’s hero of 80 years deliver their promise of happiness with every mouthful of their creations.

Axis Bar and Lounge, Mandarin Oriental, Singapore
Start your year on a delightful note with Chocolate Indulgence at Axis Bar and Lounge. Only available till the end of January, indulge in your tai-tai fantasies for an afternoon. Highlights from their afternoon tea menu include a range of sweet and savoury delights such as Diamond sable Jivara crémeux, Cocoa rubbed chicken shashlik with honey chilli and scallion and Manjari chocolate macarons. Pair them with an exquisite selection of TWG tea such as the Earl Grey Chocolate or Midsummer Night (a special blend of black tea with chocolate and mint).

Casuarina Curry
Oleh Oleh for Ondeh Ondeh Prata ($4.90) at one of our local favourite Roti Prata houses! Even with a lack of a sweet tooth, this prata deserves a thumbs up from us. A scoop of coconut ice cream, pandan jelly and shredded coconut await within the crispy paper prata shell. Now, for the finishing touches, drizzle some gula melaka over and tuck in immediately. Don’t hesitate to open yourself to this refreshing idea – you might be pleasantly surprised! Remember, only at the MacPherson outlet yeah?
