8 Places To Get Delicious Wholemeal Baked Goods In Singapore!
October 19, 2019
The Healthier Dining Programme (HDP) by the Health Promotion Board (HPB) is celebrating its 5th anniversary this year. F&B partners on board this programme have partnered with HPB to provide lower-calorie meals, or meals prepared with healthier ingredients such as wholegrain and healthier oils.
Some of these partners also offer food and drinks that are lower in sugar too! As you probably already know, wholegrain products are getting increasingly popular and have received a huge stamp of approval from the general public.
Wholegrain products are not just tasty, but they hold tons of health benefits too, so it’s no surprise that wholegrain baked goods are always snapped up. Let’s have a look at 8 F&B partners that are offering tasty, healthier baked goods!
BreadTalk
BreadTalk is constantly developing and introducing new types of bread, changing up the bread game in Singapore as we know it. In conjunction with the Healthier Dining Programme, Breadtalk has launched a wholegrain bread series consisting of highlights such as Red Quinoa Ball, Cranberry Quinoa Boost, and Original Flax Seed.
Red quinoa is rich in fibre, vitamins and minerals, high in antioxidants and is an excellent source of protein. Made with rye flour and infused with red quinoa, the Red Quinoa Ball is an excellent introduction to the world of wholegrains for the uninitiated. If you crave something a little more fruity, go for the Cranberry Quinoa Boost that is infused with dried cranberries, for a balance of sweet and tangy flavours.
Flax seeds are known to contain high levels of antioxidants, Omega-3 fatty acids, protein and fibre. The Original Flax Seed is a wholemeal bun packed with these good boys. You can enjoy the bread on its own or pair it with some cheese with an extra savoury kick.
Delcie’s Desserts and Cakes
Delcie’s Desserts and Cakes is a bakery that specialises in vegan, zero refined sugar, gluten-free, trans fat and cholesterol-free, low calorie and low carbohydrate bakes that are suitable for those on the strictest diets and with special dietary requirements like multiple food allergies.
Their Wholemeal Muffins, in particular, will definitely appeal to audiences of all ages! Available in five flavours, Banana, Banana Choc, Chocolate, Carrot and Blueberry, the muffins are sold individually in-store or in a box of 15 x 100g pieces. Warm them up in the oven before tucking into them for extra oomph!

Mr Bean
Mr Bean has released more flavours for their iconic pancakes! A total of five wholegrain pancakes have been added to the list — Hazelnut Royale Wholegrain Pancake, Blueberry Wholegrain Pancake, Taro Wholegrain Pancake, Curry Potato Wholegrain Eggwich, and Teriyaki Chicken Wholegrain Eggwich.
These additions are sure to delight long-time fans of Mr Bean’s pancakes, especially those who love the Hazelnut Royale pancake. Although these lovely round discs are made with whole grain flour but they are as fluffy and moist as the usual pancakes! There’s no reason not to treat yourself to a nice little pancake!
Nick Vina Artisan Bakery
Artisanal bread is known to be a little pricier, but the delicious, high-quality bread you’re getting is definitely worth every penny. Nick Vina is Singapore’s first approved Healthier Dining Programme Bakery. They have two types of bread available that’s made with at least 50% wholegrain. Take your tastebuds on a sourdough vacation with the 4 Grains Spelt Bread ($6.70) and the Wholemeal Walnut Loaf ($6.70).
The 4 Grains Spelt Bread is made with (you guessed it!) 4 grains — Barley, Corn, Matt Wheat, and Brown Flax. The grains give a wonderful nuttiness to the slightly tangy sourdough bread. I also like the Wholemeal Walnut Loaf which is soft on the inside, and yet has a crispy crust on the outside. I really enjoy the earthy, nutty taste of walnuts. Healthy yet tasty artisanal bread? Swee Heng
The well loved 30-year-old franchise has done it again! Swee Heng has developed healthier renditions of local classics that taste just as good as the original versions. The Wholemeal Sweet Potato Chiffon Cake ($2.50) was so soft and light, I thought I was eating a cloud.
I had to cradle my slice gingerly lest I destroyed its structural integrity. The Banana Oat Cake ($2.80) surprised me with its moist and flavourful contents. Even with reduced sugar, the banana cake was delicious.

TripletS
TripletS is a hip, yet humble bakery that serves up various delicious wholemeal bread. Our favourites include the Black Glutinous Rice Sweet Potato, Matcha Red Bean, Mango Purple Sweet Potato Mochi, and the Black Olive Focaccia. The Mango Purple Sweet Potato Mochi bread was chewy, springy and had a strong taste and fragrance of mango. They have so many other interesting flavours as well! I just wanted to try everything.
For an unassuming bakery, they sure impressed us with their selection. I guess the saying is true — don’t judge a book by its cover.
