Within The Walls Dessert Bar – Kowloon Walled City Themed Dessert Store

While I appreciate trendy desserts and fancy ice cream parlours, I can’t deny that I am stickler for the traditional. A bowl of traditional Chinese desserts such as Yam Paste or Steamed Egg Pudding would easily satisfy my dessert cravings. Within The Walls Dessert Bar, a new establishment, serves just that —Traditional Chinese Desserts.

I started off with the classic Gingko Nut Barley Beancurd Skin ($5.90) which was light and refreshing, without being overly sweet. It’s also comforting, warm, and soothing, making it suitable for all ages.

Another classic dessert and one of my personal favourites is the Mango Sago Pomelo ($6.50). The version here brought out the sweetness of the mango, striking a delicate balance with the astringent pomelo.

Next up was their shaved ice offerings, which is their specialty. I love that they use real fruits instead of artificial flavouring and colouring.

The Steady Pom Pi Pi Strawberry ($14.80) came topped with fresh strawberries along with a dollop of yoghurt. The tanginess of the yoghurt cuts through the milkiness of the strawberry snow ice beautifully.

The Kacang Puteh Peanut ($14.80) has to be my top pick here. The dessert had a strong peanut taste which I loved. Not to mention it also comes with peanut tangyuan and taro balls as toppings! I found myself shovelling spoonful after spoonful into my mouth till the bowl was empty! Definitely not sharing this with anyone the next time I’m back.

The rustic decor of the cafe, inspired by the infamous Kowloon Walled City, definitely makes this place an attraction. There’s a wide variety of both hot and cold chinese desserts, so you would definitely find something to your liking. If you are like me and love traditional chinese desserts, be sure to add this spot to your must-visit list!
