Yong Seng Teochew Fishball Noodles – Delicious Noodles in Hougang
January 18, 2019
Fishball Noodles is something I can have any day of the week, any meal of the day.
I recently discovered yet another place for delicious noodles – Yong Seng Teochew Fishball Noodles.
On top of just fishball noodles, Yong Seng offers side dishes such as Handmade Fishcake ($1.50/pcs), Popiah ($2.50/2 pcs) and Big Ngoh Hiang ($2.50/2pcs). I ordered Fishball Noodles ($3.50), Laksa ($3.50) and Fish Dumplings Soup ($3.50).
The Fishball Noodles ($3.50) came with slices of fish cake, lard, pig liver and 3 different kinds of meatballs(fish, mixed and pork). The texture of the fishball really impressed me. It was firm, bouncy, and had a clean flavour.
The mixed fishball was made with fish, pork, some cut vegetable and chilli. It was less QQ than the fishball but was significantly tastier.
The pork ball was, expectedly, tougher than the other two, but it still was great.
The al dente meepok was seasoned beautifully. I always love the sauce that goes along with this dish, especially with added vinegar and chilli.
The fragrant Laksa ($3.50) was also enjoyable, and spicier than I had expected. The bowl also came with a good dollop of hum (cockles) which I really enjoyed.
The Fish Dumplings Soup ($3.50) came with 9 pieces of small fish dumplings. The dumplings had a gelatinous filling which was light and tasty, a perfect accompaniment to my noodles.
We were actually introduced to Yong Seng Teochew Fishball Noodles by one of our readers while we were doing a food review at another hawker centre. Regrettably, I didn’t get his name but hey, if you’re reading this, thanks for introducing us to Yong Seng!
