When I think about burgers, the first thing that comes to mind would be a Western-style burger. I only learned recently that we can get Chinese-style burgers in Singapore!

Similar to its western counterpart, Chinese-style burgers also feature meats and vegetables sandwiched between two pieces of “bread buns”. Instead of the usual burger buns, these unique burgers use crispy, flaky & golden brown flatbreads!

Rougamo Grill

The first thing that caught my attention at Zhong Hua Rougamo is a grill filled with crispy flatbread. There are several flavours ranging from pork to fish to choose from.

The Pork Rougamo ($4.80) here features braised pork belly which is chopped before placed into the burger. The pork is braised overnight, and carries a lovely aroma and fragrance from the herbs and spices used. The staff also makes every burger upon order, ensuring optimal freshness.

I would liken the flatbread, with its crispy exterior and doughy interior, to a youtiao. It holds the filling well with each bite being substantial and satisfying.

The Chicken Rougamo ($4.80) sees a deep-fried chicken patty slathered with mayonnaise. It is rather simple and resembles your conventional burger making it well-suited for all ages.

Other than Rougamo, there are noodle options available. The Suan La Fen ($5.80) broth is numbingly spicy and moderately tangy with springy sweet potato noodles. My only gripe is that there was not much ingredients other than the occasional peanuts, vegetables and taupok.
